Minister of the First Church from 1806-1866, Rev. Noah Porter supported abolition. Marghru, one of the three African girls, lived with the Porters. Of all the Africans who came to Farmington, she was the only one to return to the U.S.: she studied at Oberlin College, then went home again to Africa as a missionary. The Porters' oldest daughter, Sarah, was the "Miss Porter" who founded Miss Porter's School in 1843. Early Supporters of her school were the Farmington abolitionists.
