FIRST CHURCH OF CHRIST, 75 Main St.

Farmington abolitionist were members of this congregation and their minister, Rev. Noah Porter, supported the abolitionist cause. On occasion he exchanged pulpits with Rev. J.C. Pennington, a former slave who became minister of the Talcott Street Congregational Church, Hartford (now Faith Congregational Church). On their arrival in Farmington, the newly-freed Amistad survivors were welcomed in the church. They worshiped here and just before their return to Africa their leader Cinque gave a farewell talk here in his native language.
