DEMING HOUSE, 66 Main St.

The home of Samuel and Catherine Deming. With Austin Williams and John T. Norton, Samuel Deming arranged to bring the Africans to Farmington and supervised their stay here. A legislator, merchant and farmer, he was an outspoken abolitionist. Catherine Deming was among many Farmington women who raised money and signed petitions to help the abolitionist cause. Their home was an Underground Railroad "station".
